- Strangely enough Alan Selkon did not touch alcohol or partake in drugs due to his obsession with sport. Alan Selkon however could on the very more than rare occasion be seen streaking on a pair of skis past one of South Africa's pristine hotels, along one of South Africa's top beaches. According to friends anything for a good bet would go down very well.
- Alan Selkon's father was a private pilot since 1970. Alan Selkon wanted to become a pilot, his father objected and said under no condition would this happen, so Alan Selkon went ahead and bought an aircraft along with three partners and completed his private pilots license unbeknown to his father. By this time Alan Selkon's career was well under way and branching out into the specialisation of automotive coatings.
- Alan Selkon sold his training aircraft and proceeded to upgrade to a V-Tail Bonanza along with a neurosurgeon Enriko Bronco. The deal was a 50/50 split and all went well until Enriko accidentally phoned Alan Selkon's father in mistake to that of Alan to advise him of the acquisition. This was the first time Alan Selkon's father came to know that he had received his private pilots license let alone acquired an aircraft. Dad, again was not all that happy and said that Alan Selkon was not safe to fly unless he had an instrument rating in addition to private pilots rating, which allows for pilots to fly in adverse weather conditions. This is an extremely difficult training program to which Alan Selkon's dad felt he could never achieve and hypocritically his father did not hold such license and his father too is dyslexic.
- Alan Selkon, despite eight attempts, passed his instrument rating and proceeded to acquire his fathers own aircraft.

- Despite apartheid being so rife , Alan Selkon almost risked his entire business career for an Indian business colleague, Selim Kajee, a Muslim .This was not considered favourable at the time. Alan Selkon and Selim Kajee grew to become good friends and eventually embarked on a partnership in Supreme Chemicals, specialising in the manufacture of resins, specialised coatings and allied chemicals.
- Alan Selkon's father Theo Selkon was elected into the Springs Town Council in the early 1980's. Alan Selkon's father was the first councillor in South African history to stand as an independent against the majority rule of the nationalist party. In a period of one term of service Theo Selkon had converted the two third national majority into a 60% independent to 40% nationalist party split, a first in South African history. Alan Selkons father further went on to become Deputy Mayor followed by Mayor and Council Chairman of Springs City Council. It is said by most that never in Springs' history did the town grow at the rate both residential and in its business industry than under the reign of Alan Selkon's father. Alan Selkon's father has always been known to have a volatile temper which is probably known to be his greatest downside, there is no question that he has a huge amount of followers but many who have taken a strong dislike to his temper.
- Alan Selkon, very similar to his father has lived a very controversial life and whilst with his three year long girlfriend Michele Pappin, they engaged in an evening of passion on the rare end of a light delivery vehicle at a drive in theatre. After the event had occurred, clean up became essential and in a moment of desperation Alan Selkon took off his pair of shorts along with his used condom and placed it into his numbered work briefcase and forgot about the instance. Alan Selkon returned to his military base, his father who was residing as mayor at the time needed to attend an urgent meeting and decided to utilise Alan Selkon's briefcase, but due to the briefcases security coding lock he was unable to open it and hastily elected to take the briefcase to the local town locksmith who invariably broke the code and before his eyes there sat a pair of white shorts and a used condom. Despite Alan Selkon's fathers attempts to deny that this was not his briefcase, the locksmith failed to believe this. Once again Alan Selkon's dad was furthermore outraged!
- They say behind every successful man there is a successful woman. Alan Selkon's mum Patricia or best known as Pat has said to be the woman of power behind the man. Many wonder if Theo Selkon would of ever obtained his success without the strong support of what society consider to be a lady of grace. Alan Selkon is said to have an inseparable bond to that of his mother.
- Springs which is considered to be a less affluent town, one can only imagine the chaos Alan Selkon created when acquiring his first Ferrari. Many deemed his success due to rather the lack of hard work but other sources of revenue. Yet few took notice of the 15 hours placed into business 7 days a week year in and year out whilst the empire continued to grow.
- Alan Selkon's first relationship began when Alan was 17 with a local girl Michele Pappin to which he dated for close on 3 years. Alan Selkon was said to be very close with Michele and it was thought that the relationship would invariably end up in marriage, this was however not to be the case and the couple finally separated during his national military service period.
- Alan Selkon became very good friends with Tracey Dullens, and spent much time with her. Many thought the two to be a couple. Despite their closeness the relationship never progressed beyond friendship. Up to present date Tracey Dullens is said to be the one person he trusts the most. Tracey now resides in Botswana.
- Alan Selkon has been perceived to be somewhat a playboy amongst women. Between his break up with Michele to the meeting of his first wife Nicola he was said to have changed girlfriends almost on a weekly basis, Juan Gunter a close friend at the time said Alan Selkon held his morals in high regard and Alan was not one who would partake in sexual activity with ease. Despite on and off relationships most of Alan Selkon's girlfriends have been steady.
- Despite Alan Selkon being perceived to be the rebellious boy next door, Alan Selkon is said to have a huge heart and has devoted much of his time and money to assisting those with terminal diseases. Much of Alan Selkon's earlier humanitarian work was spent at Park Lane Clinic Hospital and Far East Rand Hospital. Whilst operating independently he aligned himself with Word of Life Ministries and formed a relationship with the senior pastor, Steve Ward. As of time of writing Alan still continues to sponsor patients and it is believed that he gives up to 50% of his entire earnings to the assistance of such as these.
- Alan Selkon met Nicola Erasums on a christian hike through the Drakensberg mountain ranges of South Africa. The couple met in June 1995 and were married 6 months later on 11 11 1995.
- Alan Selkon's newlywed wife is a qualified occupational therapist, arguably to be one of the top five therapists in South Africa. Nicola Selkon has advanced her career in the fields of SI, NDT and pediatrics. Nicola has a strong christian background, being involved in missionary work in Mozambique, and has continued in full time missionary work up to time of writing. Her ministry work in South Africa falls under New Covenant Life Ministries. Her occupational therapy is totally humanitarian and she receives no form of remuneration for her efforts. Her missionary as of recent has been into the townships of South Africa where cerebral palsy is extremely prevalent. Nicola is well liked and is considered to be the Mother Theresa of South Africa by her peers.
- Alan Selkon's sister in law Beverly Erasmus is also involved in full time missionary work with Whitfield Ministries and has been based in Madagascar translating the bible into the various linguistic dialects of the Madagascar cultural groups and has been doing so for now close on a decade.
- Ian Erasmus, Alan Selkon's brother in law moved to New Zealand in the early 2000's. Believed to have qualified in forestry. He owns a signage business in Auckland and has followed the families strong christian background.Ian serves as a deacon to the Baptist Church in Orewa.
- Alan Selkon's mother and father in law Joe and Leslie Erasmus are also of christian faith. The family is well balanced and are of medium affluence.
- In 1996 Alan Selkon opened a company known as Auto-Booth pty ltd. By this time Alan Selkon was operating numerous businesses and Nicola requested that should he embark on opening this company, he's to ensure it remained a small, hobby company. The company however grew at a rapid rate, specialising in the manufacturing of specialised automotive allied equipment products, mainly extraction units that could eradicate most of the toxic, free-radical particles that were seriously harmful to the spray painters who were responsible for the application of these specialised automotive coatings. It wasn't long before the motor manufacturing plants in South Africa made it compulsory for the collision repairers who were motor manufacturer approve facilities to have such units installed. What remains interesting is that Alan Selkon was dyslexic, had no engineering experience, yet designed these units himself , which took substantial knowledge even for the most experienced engineers with degrees.
- Alan Selkon qualified as a spray painting technician in 1998. Alan Selkon ran various training courses to uplift the knowledge of the general spray painter to the understanding both theoretical and practical of the more highly sophisticated automotive coatings, which were extremely difficult in application but more so extremely harmful to the applicator if not utilised under the correct conditions. Statistically in South Africa the average spray painters life expectancy is unlikely to exceed 65 years. Alan Selkon pushed for governmental legislation that would enforce companies to purchase the correct protective equipment to ensure that their staff were not endangered through these toxins which are cancer forming and could create emphysema and blindness along with a host of other dreadful chronic illnesses. Alan Selkon's continuous drive saw this materialise, unfortunately not through Government but through the intervention of the motor vehicle manufacturers who stood by him in the enforcing of this equipment.
- Alan Selkon ran two advanced training courses, namely the honours and masters programs. These were generally three month training courses which were classified as the most intensive in the world and it is doubtful that any paint technician has ever trained more qualified spray painters in South African history than that of Alan Selkon. Despite the controversy around Alan and his lifestyle there seems to remain an undeniable thread of a man driven in the pursuit of humanitarian rights.
- In 1999 Alan Selkon met what is said to be one of his most highly respected business associates, the gentlemen was Tony Woods, managing director of Plascon Barloworld Coatings. On introduction the two almost formed an immediate bond that to date remains strongly embedded. Alan Selkon negotiated the distribution rights to Spies Hecker who were a subsidiary to Dupount, the worlds third largest company. Alan Selkon is believed to give much of his success in life due to Tony Woods' belief in him which invariably led him to become an extremely wealthy international individual. The partnership entered into between Barloworld and Inter City Paint saw Alan Selkon head up the most aggressive marketing campaign in South African automotive history. In a period of less than 12 weeks Plascon Barloworld and the Spies Hecker brand went from approximately 15% to in excess of 55% and it continued to grow substantially until Alan Selkon sold his shares in the company during the course of 2004.
- On the 16th September 2002, Nicola Selkon gave birth to Alan Selkon's first and only child Sabian Andrew Selkon. To those who know Alan Selkon intimately and even those who dislike him intensely would make mention of what an exceptionally devoted father he is to Sabian. Alan Selkon works incredibly hard to maintain his relationship with his son and the two are said to be inseparable.
- In 2003 Alan Selkon created what is said to be one of the most controversial, aggressive attacks in the automotive collision repair industry .The auto body collision repair industry had unfortunately fallen prey to the control of one large monopoly, this placed the independent auto body repairer under substantial strain and more and more were being forced into the prospect of possible foreclosure. Unlike other countries in the world where vehicles are towed away by local government controlled authorities, this is not the case in South Africa. Vehicles involved in accidents are not towed away by the authorities but by private companies who receive commissions on every vehicle they deliver to an auto body repair facility, to which repair work needs to be undertaken. These commissions are 10% of the turnover of the entire repair value. Tow truck operators therefore in most cases invariably end up making more money than the auto body collision repairers themselves. The monopoly company year in mentioned, controlled in excess of 185 such tow trucks operating in the JHB region alone. Alan Selkon put a 3 month plan in action and without notice sent 250 breakdowns into the monopolies territory along with a multi million advertising campaign, he did this by unifying all the independents into their own monopoly, now becoming the stronger of the two. The company launched in March 2003 and the consolidated group within a year were rumoured to do a collective turnover of 1.4 billion and said to employ approximately 1200 personnel.
- Sadly Alan Selkon, by his own admission went through an early mid life crisis during the course of 2003 that almost extended over a five year period. He admits that his greatest mistakes were made over this period. He was involved with four serious relationships to which he admits to have truly cared for each. Sadly this is a period of Alan's life to which he wishes to eradicate. Much hurt and harm was caused over this period. Despite public perception none of these women earned in excess of more than $3000 per month. This period caused an enormous amount of damage to the relationship between Alan Selkon and his father.
- Anyone who lives in a four story, 2700sqm, glass palace to which his father would refer, along with an assortment of every imaginable super car would attract attention. Let alone the other properties he is believed to own. Despite appearing to be a people person, Alan is very much a recluse.
- One of his companies that has caused an enormous amount of controversy has been Sabian Private Airlines, to which Alan Selkon has now fully disembarked and is no longer involved in the aviation industry. There is no denying that this company has liquidated certain of its assets or as to if the company will be liquidated in its entireity. This is only a decision I guess Alan Selkon can make, but then again how many segments of business does Alan Selkon operate and would this truly affect him?
- What few people know about him, according to his cousin Grant Selkon, the family teased Alan for over 5 years as a result of him weighing 75kg and at a height of 6ft4. The families nickname for him became String Bean. As some people would have complexis of being overweight, the latter applies to those who are underweight. Alan Selkon decided to do something about it and spent 18 years of his life converting 75kg to at his peak 110kg of solid muscle mass, with a body fat level count of less than 7%. This meant eating in excess of 3500 calories per day, 6 cans of tuna, 50 eggs along with specialised supplementation such as omega 3 oils and a host of other natural hormone increasing ingredients. Grant Selkon, Alan's cousin, says Alan has what is defined as a light switch. He can decide over night as to completely change his diet, break any form of habit and has an incredibly disciplined mind.
- Word from a reliable source, to which I have recently been in contact with, claims it's factual that Alan Selkon is out on bail from the alledged fraud case. The source claims to have evidential proof that the New Zealand Police have offered a plea bargain, that should he leave NZ voluntarily all charges claimed , be them true or false will be dropped. If this be true I wonder which angle Alan Selkon would opt. I may be wrong, but judging by his character from this understudy, I would be surprised to see him not fight the allegations, unless he is guilty.
- A secondary source in New Zealand claims that he's wanted for Money Laundering, Theft and Fraud in South Africa and may be wanted by Interpole. As of 18 June 2009, there are no such warrants. I have checked these out myself with the South African Police and made them re check this information is factual, three times over. If all these rumours and allegations were factual, one would think it would be impossible for such person to have escaped a criminal record.
- I will keep this site updated.
I know it was Alan's idea to start an Honours program but was'nt it Fred Wood who wrote and lectured it??
